Geek Speak - Volume 1

Welcome to Geek Speak! 🤓

I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes work being done for those of you interested in the nuts and bolts of the operations here from a technical standpoint, which I realize is not necessarily related to music and/or keyboarding. But here it goes anyway. Check out what we're working on and what's to come in the BTS of My Keys To Music!

Loom Integration

We’re migrating all auxiliary video-sharing services to Loom. Loom allows me to have a more automated way to share videos that are not already hosted on YouTube, Patreon, or the course engine itself. For example, when I post a video in the My Keys community, I use Loom as the engine to serve that video. If I should make a video as a response to a YouTube question, I’d use Loom to host that video and put a link in the YouTube comment.

Vimeo/Patreon

Patreon videos were previously hosted on Vimeo and then embedded into a Patreon post. The connection between the two platforms has degraded, and the thumbnail support no longer works well. Therefore, all Patreon videos will run native to Patreon and will include a proper thumbnail and have caption capability. I’m hoping they will eventually support full 4K quality as well. We’ve moved about half the videos thus far and plan to wrap up all this by fall (2024). My only complaint is that Patreon can do a better job of auto-transcribing the videos, but they seem to improve with time.

Transcription

Speaking of transcribing… Generation one of all translated transcriptions in the course videos is complete. However, I already have my eyes on generation two, which would be a far more automated process. It would also improve the translation interpretation to have more context and be even more accurate/appropriate. The dream is to have a single button we can push that would upload a lesson video, transcribe it to English, translate it to all the necessary languages, then upload the captions and associate that with a given lesson. It’s a massive project from a programming standpoint, but I think the developer tools to do this in 2024 are finally at a point where it should work and save us a ton of time while offering an even better result.

My Keys To Music Index

Another dream project is to have a “complete and total index” of any and all content across all My Keys platforms. I imagine having the ability to “find anything” and the engine returning the exact location where that content can be found (My Keys Courses, Patreon, Blogs, and/or YouTube). This would also be an intelligent search with AI assistance to provide a semantic list of related topics from most relevant to least (kind of like having a privatized Google search just on the My Keys stuff).  For example, “Help me find out how to adjust and calibrate the output levels on my Nord Electro 6” and it would provide a link to the exact lesson/blog/video for that question. Or “Find me any and all Beatles Song/Lessons for the Nord Stage 4,” and it would provide a list of items either on YouTube, Patreon, or the lessons in the course along with a link and if that item requires a paid membership or not.

I hope you enjoyed this very first "Geek Speak" post. I'll catch you in the next edition!
